It took me a while, in fact, it took some significant adversity and challenging times to force me to really look at what gave me a sense of fulfillment, what I was passionate about.

Enabling Humanness

The days of formal scripted pitches and presentations have been replaced with daily interactions and connections.  It's more about helping than it is HYPE.   Asking a question, listening (really listening), having a meaningful authentic conversation... and then collaborating to form a strategic long-term relationship has never been more important.    Even when the world is being forced to up it's digital game the importance of compassion, understanding, and connecting with authentic conversation is a difference-maker. 

This is true Internally and Externally.  I love how technology can be an effective tool, but also keenly aware of how it can be a crutch.

Coaching 

 

Sales coaching is one of the many elements of our profession that leaders should be rethinking and reconfiguring to align with a permanently altered business environment. Chasing quota and treating leads as commodities rather than human beings won’t yield sustainably strong results for a modern organization

 

TEAM 

Patrick Lencioni is one of my favorites.  His 5 pillars  of TEAM (5 dysfunctions of a TEAM)  apply to every personal, professional, charitable, purpose-driven TEAM

 

  • At the foundation is TRUST

  • This allows for healthy conflict.  

  • Commitment to direction

  • Accountability to your role and to the team

  • Placing the good of the TEAM above personal gain or opinion.  

Objectives 

Goals and objectives have been etched into our business repertoire for decades.   But what if we looked at goals differently.  What if a goal or objective was not a destination but an ongoing journey.  A waypoint along and infinite process.   This would allow us to focus on the activity, the practice, implementation, and execution along the way; while continually adjusting and improving to achieve greater impact.  To RISE TO THE NEXT LEVEL.   

 

Far Beyond the numbers.

Data, numbers, and results can tell a great story.  But data is one part of a more complicated formula.  We owe it to ourselves and organizations to start with the numbers but dig deeper to understand the full story, the activity, the people the connections, and then utilize data to add support and verification.  

Learning>> GROWTH ZONE

If there has ever been a time, now is it.  In the middle of unbelievable change and uncertainty individuals, teams and organizations must be committed to creating an environment and culture of continuous learning.  Sounds easy.  But how often does the urgency and importance of every day business supersede the luxury of learning?   It's hard to balance.  What gives me tremendous hope and confidence in our ability to create captivating content that is relevant in microbursts, to be served up just in time in a variety of blended channels and mediums.  The CONTENT  is CRITICAL it the delivery is required to be dynamic.     PRACTICE is CRUCIAL to improvement and success.    And the CADENCE has never been more important.

I am not sure if I was asked or if I just thought it was important.  And most likely this isn't an original roster of important virtues.  But it has been a foundation that we have deemed critical when coaching internally as well as asking others to join our team.
